Quality of Service

Quality of Service or Traffic Control involves tasks such as shaping traffic, scheduling or dropping packets, which are a requirement when there is a bandwidth bottleneck in a link and some type of traffic over another has to be prioritized.

QoS carries traffic for resource-intensive systems that can be applied to networks.

Organizations have the ability to optimize the performance of multiple applications on their network and have a clear view into the bit rate, delay, jitter, and packet rate of their network using QoS in networking. To avoid transmission delay and increase the efficiency, a change in the way that packets are routed to the internet or other networks his ensures they can engineer the traffic on their network and. It helps in delivering enhanced quality for applications and improved user experiences.

QoS means to let organizations and networks modify traffic, which can be done in different ways such as reducing latency, offering dedicated bandwidth & controlling jitter. The technologies used are important in improving the performance of many service provider networks, business applications, and wide-area networks.

Different service types are identified by marking packets, then separate virtual queues are created for each application by the routers, based on the priority. As a result, bandwidth is reserved for websites that have been assigned priority access or for critical applications.

QoS technologies provide handling allocation and capacity to specific flows in network traffic. The order in which the packets are handled, the traffic flow and the amount of bandwidth to each application can also be controlled or monitored by the network administrator.

The above mentioned features are offered and supported by VCL-MX-50xx family of IP/MPLS Routers.
